How to Find Balance in a World Obsessed with Productivity
Dear Reader,
Sometimes we live under the myth that we must always be highly productive. But what about the things we do simply because we love them — not for money, not for recognition, but because they make us feel alive?
In today’s culture of constant productivity, we’re expected to fill every hour of the day — go to the gym, learn new languages, cook healthy meals, care for kids and pets, volunteer, paint landscapes, and somehow stay inspired through it all. But how long can we truly keep that pace?
The problem isn’t being productive itself — it’s forgetting that our bodies and minds also need rest. Taking a break isn’t laziness; it’s wisdom. We all need idle moments to recharge and to do things purely for joy, not profit.
So, take a few minutes each day — even just five — to appreciate the world around you. That simple pause can be a powerful reminder: “I am in control of my time and my life.”
Do things for pleasure, not just for money. If you love painting ducks in Alaskan lakes, paint them. If you enjoy reading history books in the park, take your book and go. If baking candies makes you happy, then make them. Have a hobby that brings you peace — because joy is also productive.
Take care,
Augusto Machado
