Where the Sky Turns Blue Again
A Letter About Resilience
Dear Reader,
There are days when the urge to drop everything, pack a few belongings, and let the wind decide your destination feels almost irresistible. I’ve felt that way many times myself — until an old Arabic proverb helped me see things differently:
“Above the storm clouds, the sky is always blue.”
My mother often repeats another saying that perfectly complements it:
“No hardship lasts forever, just as no good moment is eternal.”
When we focus only on the problem, all we see is the problem. And there are moments when no light appears because we’re standing right in the center of the storm. In those moments, everything seems to fall apart — friends feel distant, safe harbors seem rare, and every step feels heavier than the last.
But storms forge strong sailors. It’s easy to move forward when the sea is calm or when everything is already built. The real satisfaction lies elsewhere — in something quieter, deeper:
Knowing that what you’ve achieved comes from honest work, and being able to sleep peacefully because of it.
During a storm we seek shelter, but sometimes we find something even more valuable: people who stay. Few things are more liberating than knowing you built your path without harming anyone — and that those beside you choose to be there.
Take a breath. This too will pass.
And remember: everything in life is passenger — except the bus driver and the fare collector.
Warm regards,
Augusto Machado
